SLR Metaliks Ltd: Pioneering Energy Efficiency with Energy Optimizing Furnace (EOF) for Sustainable Alloy and Super Special Steel Manufacturing in Karnataka, India.

SLR Metaliks Ltd (SLRM), is an alloy & super special steel manufacturing company located near Hospet in Karnataka India. The plant is having a capacity to manufacture 0.3 MTPA of steel confirming to various international standards. As a result of choosing Energy Optimizing Furnace (EOF) for manufacturing of basic steel, SLRM has reduced its energy requirement itself drastically irrespective of the type of electric energy that is being used.

SLRM is happy & take pleasure in mentioning that it is decreasing its dependency on conventional power and increasing consumption of Renewable Energy (RE) on continual basis. During last FY (2021-22), SLRM has consumed nearly 60% of RE out of its total import of energy.

In this process, SLRM takes pleasure in mentioning that, under group captive system, it has invested in Wind mill of 19.8 MW and getting the power of nearly 20% of its total imports since last 4 years. Similarly, SLRM has invested in Solar plant of 30 MWp which is commissioned this July 2022 and would be sourcing nearly 30% of its importing energy from this project which is located near Karatagi in the Dist of Koppal in Karnataka. Further, SLRM has invested in one more Solar plant of 27 MWp which is expected to get commissioned in Sept 2022 and it would supply nearly 25% of SLRM energy imports. This project of 27 MWp is located at Gangavati taluka of Dist Koppal.

Once all the projects are made operational, which is expected by Sept 2022, SLRM would be using RE energy under group captive system to the extent of 75% of its power imports. Further another 10% to 15% of the energy requirements will be sourced again from RE sources in the Open market. That takes the RE power utilization to nearly 85%. SLRM is also planning to add some more capacity say, 12 to 15 MWp RE under group captive system in the coming year.

In addition, SLRM is producing its own power using the Blast Furnace waste gas which is contributing to the extent of nearly 16% to 18% of its energy requirement.

SLRM assures itself that it will be in the forefront & wish to become an example in making GREEN STEEL at all the times.
